COOK PROPERTY ACQUISITION

In a continuing effort to expand the Commonwealth’s forestry system, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, in conjunction with the Commonwealth of Kentucky, set out to acquire approximately 1,300 acres of land in Marion County, Kentucky.

DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC worked closely with personnel from these cabinets during all phases of this project.  Initially, DDS crews performed extensive research of the property, reviewing records from the Property Valuation Administration and Marion County Clerk’s Office.  Being such a large tract of land with little prior change in ownership, little was to be found pertaining to the history of the properties.  Following the research phase of this project, DDS field crews were mobilized to the project and, using the latest in GPS technology, were able to locate and establish an extraordinarily accurate horizontal control to be used on the project.

Following the establishment of the control data, DDS crews traversed the property to locate any evidence of existing corner monuments, boundary lines, evidence of occupation, and any other information needed to determine the existing boundaries.  From this data, the boundary information was recorded and translated into electronic documentation which would later be processed by surveying technicians within the DDS office.  This processed data was provided to the required cabinets within the Commonwealth.

This data would become invaluable for Commonwealth officials as they made the final purchase of this property.  Shortly following the acquisition, the property was listed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources as the Marion County Wildlife Management Area and State Forest.  The beautiful specimen of Kentucky’s natural assets is open to the public.  View more about visiting here.
