Smith & Associates, Engineering and Surveying was established in 1973 as a firm supplying complete drafting services of all types to local building contractors. We soon grew to become a firm which provided complete surveying needs for Architects, Engineers, Heavy and Highway, General, Mechanical, and Electrical Contractors in South Central Kentucky and North Central Tennessee.

DDS ENGINEERING was established in 1984 to provide our clients with an extensive array of services. Our staff of Engineers, Landscape Architects, Draftsmen and Surveying Crews provided complete Surveying, Civil and Mechanical Engineering design, Landscape Architecture and other custom services. Our affiliation with Architects, Structural Engineers, Geotechnical Engineers and Electrical Engineers allowed us to offer an even broader range of services to address all of our client's needs. Since our beginning, we grew to become a firm which provided complete surveying and design needs for Architects, Engineers, Municipal, Commercial, Industrial and Residential Developers, Heavy and Highway, General Mechanical and Electrical Contractors in South Central Kentucky and North Central Tennessee.

On October 01, 2001, Smith & Associates, Engineering and Surveying was completely merged with DDS ENGINEERING to form DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC. This move allows DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC to provide totally integrated Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Construction Inspection and Testing, and related services, throughout the Kentucky and Tennessee area.

Our Staff is composed of professionals with many years of experience in all aspects of the services we offer, allowing us to provide a wide range of expertise. Dennis D. Smith, the Principal of DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC is a licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky, Mississippi, Georgia, Indiana and West Virginia, as well as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Kentucky, Mississippi, North Dakota, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Our chief Engineering Project Manager, Jason S. Blakeman, PE, PLS, is licensed in the states Kentucky and Tennessee as a Professional Engineer and in Kentucky as a Professional Surveyor.

Elinor Markle, RLA, Project Manager and Landscape Architect, is licensed as a landscape architect in both Kentucky and Tennessee. She has over 20 years experience in a wide variety of land development projects.

Our Director of Surveys, Don Pedigo, PLS, is a licensed Professional Surveyor in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. Don has over 26 years experience as a professional surveyor.

Matt Rogers, EIT, Director of Testing and Inspection Services, is responsible for asphalt, concrete sales and aggregate sampling and testing, as well as onsite inspections of ongoing construction.

Bernard Blakeman, PLS, Surveying Manager at our Bowling Green office, is licensed in the state of Kentucky as a Professional Surveyor. Bernie has over 34 years of professional surveying experience, including 31 years as Principal and Owner of Blakeman’s Land Surveying, which was recently purchased by DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC.

Jan Bundy, PLS, Field Surveying Supervisor at our Hopkinsville office, received his Professional Surveyors license in February 2007. Jan has over 25 years experience as a Survey Crew Party Chief and Engineering Technician/Draftsman.

Stewart Lich, PE, is a Staff Engineer, licensed in the state of Kentucky as a Professional Engineer, with 7 years experience in the engineering field. Stewart brings vast knowledge in site and roadway design to DDS far beyond what those years indicate.

As former Owner and Operator of B.J. Byrd Surveying in Princeton, Kentucky, B. J. Byrd, PLS, brings extensive surveying capabilities to his new position as Surveying Manager at our Hopkinsville office. B. J. is licensed in the state of Kentucky as a Professional Surveyor. B.J. also previously worked at Charles Billingsley Land Surveying, a business purchased by DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC in 2006.
