DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC
is performing the field engineering layout services and
on-site and laboratory construction material testing services
for the new L. T. Smith Stadium West expansion at
Western Kentucky University
with Abel Construction Company, Inc. ,of Louisville, Kentucky.
Rick Emmitt, Field Surveying Party Chief
is overseeing the
day-to-day field layout operations and Matt Rogers, EIT and his
team are addressing all the projects’ construction materials
testing and special inspection needs.
The Commonwealth of Kentucky
awarded DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC the
design of an eighteen hole miniature golf course adjacent to the
new campground store facility at
Dale Hollow State Resort Park. Nine of the
greens and the practice green will be ADA accessible. Greens are
custom designed, poured in place concrete with concrete paver
edging and covered in polypropylene carpet. Obstacles in and
around the course are large boulders. The greens will be
connected by 5’ wide concrete sidewalks. A short water fall will
feed a shallow stream which meanders through the course and ends
in a small pond. One custom designed bridge will cross the
stream, and two of the greens themselves will act as bridges
over the stream. Landscape areas are planted with native trees,
shrubs and perennials. Steel light posts light each green and
the connecting sidewalks. Storm-water drainage will be built of
yard inlet grates and pop up emitters.
Construction is now underway and the project will be complete by
Spring of 2008.
LOST RIVER CAVE:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC
recently completed the initial underground cave surveys and
provided preliminary recommendations for the relocation of the
existing dam within the
Lost River Cave. The proposed relocation
of the dam will enable Lost River Cave to provide much longer
cave boat tours and add to the enjoyment and education benefit
of one of Bowling Green’s natural wonders. Underground surveying
was coordinated by Field Surveying Party Chief, Rick Emmitt and
managed by Don Pedigo, PLS. Dam relocation analysis was provided
by Dennis D. Smith, PE, PLS
and Jason Blakeman , PE, PLS.
MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK: Working with
HDR
Engineering, Inc,
The National Park Service and The Mammoth Cave
National Park,
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC
was recently awarded and has commenced the detailed surveying of
roughly 10 miles of cave trail within the Historic, Gothic
Avenue, Frozen Niagara, Violet City Lantern tour and Grand
Avenue portions of Mammoth Cave. Field services are directed by
Rick Emmitt, Field Surveying Party Chief
and the project is
managed by Don Pedigo, PLS.
ARMSTRONG COAL COMPANY, INC.: With a joint
effort between the Bowling Green and Hopkinsville offices of
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC
a major railroad spur line to a new coal tipple near McHenry,
Kentucky, was recently surveyed, designed and is now under
construction utilizing “fast track” methods to achieve a very
aggressive deadline for the shipment and delivery of coal to the
southeastern United States markets by Armstrong Coal. Field
surveying work was coordinated by
Jan Bundy, PLS from the
Hopkinsville office and the Civil Engineering design was
coordinated by Stewart
Lich, PE and
Cody Humble, EIT, from the
Bowling Green office.
UNITED STATES POST OFFICE: In conjunction with
Kovert Hawkins Architects,
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
recently completed the design, plan and construction document
preparation for the modernization of the Main Postal Facility
located on 11th Avenue in downtown Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Jason Blakeman, PE, PLS and his team coordinated all design
services with our Client and the United Sates Postal Service.
RUSSELLVILLE WATER COMPANY:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
was recently awarded the first phase of construction document
preparation for water system upgrades for the
City of
Russellville, Kentucky Water System. Field
surveying services were managed by Don
Pedigo, PLS,
from the Bowling Green Office with the assistance of the
Hopkinsville office and Jan Bundy, PLS and his
team. Jason Blakeman, PE, PLS and his team are
providing all engineering design services.
WASTE MANAGEMENT:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity
(ID/IQ) contract with Waste Management, Inc. to provide
construction staking, fill limit verification and topographic
survey work for Waste Management facilities in Logan County,
(Russellville) Ohio County (Beaver Dam) and Graves County
(Mayfield). Field work for these projects is directed by
Rick
Emmitt, Field Surveying Party Chief and
Bill Rowland, Field
Surveying Party Chief and managed by
Don Pedigo , PLS.
BULL RUN FOSSIL FUEL PLANT AND CLINCH RIVER FOSSIL FUEL
PLANT:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
was awarded contract extensions for on-going work at the above
TVA electric power generation plants in east Tennessee.
DDS
staff has been heavily involved with TVA power generating plant
work since an initial contract at the
Paradise Fossil Fuel Plant
in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky in late 2003.
Ensley Wright, Jr.,
PLS, has managed all the daily on-site field operations on these
projects under the Direction of Don Pedigo, PLS from the Bowling
Green office.
LOST RIVER STORM WATER WETLANDS TREATMENT FACILITY:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
in a joint venture with
Environmental Consulting Services, Inc.,
(ECSI), is completing plans and construction documents for an
innovative storm water treatment facility adjacent to the Lost
River Cave and Valley. The system will utilize “wetlands
technology” to treat storm water runoff from US Highway 31-W
reconstruction and improvements before it is discharged into the
Lost River Cave.
Jason Blakeman, PE, PLS is Project Manager for
this Project.
NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
working in conjunction with the Project Architect,
Sherman
Carter Barnhart, Architects, of Lexington, Kentucky. Louisville, provided all site Civil
Engineering Design services for the 50,000 square foot expansion
of the National Corvette Museum, 350 Corvette Drive, in Bowling
Green. Melanie Hunt, EIT, has done an excellent job in
completing the plans for “fast tracking” the site grading work
on this project. Elinor Markle, RLA, was
responsible for the design of all landscape planting and
irrigation systems.
KROGER COMPANY:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
was selected by the
Kroger Company to provide Special Inspection
Services for the expansion of their store located at 350 US
Highway 31-W By-Pass in Bowling Green.
Matt Rogers, EIT and his
team have done an excellent job in meeting all the contractor’s
needs on this project.
INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 65 (I-65):
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
has been selected by Contractors performing work on the widening
of I-65 to provide third-party independent testing of all
concrete placed on the interstate widening projects.
DDS’s
laboratory was certified by the
Commonwealth of Kentucky,
Department of Highways in August 2006.
Matt Rogers, EIT, and his
team, are commended for their efforts in achieving this
certification and maintaining the high standards required by the
Department
LOVERS LANE (Kentucky Highway 880):
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
has been selected by Contractors performing work on the widening
of Lovers Lane to provide third-party independent testing of all
concrete placed on the Lovers Lane widening project.
Matt
Rogers, EIT, and his team, are maintaining all testing for the
project’s very aggressive schedule.
NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM:
DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC,
was selected to provide sub-surface investigation and
geotechnical engineering services for the 50,000 square foot
expansion of the
National Corvette Museum, 350 Corvette Drive,
in Bowling Green. Matt Rogers, EIT, and his team, provided
coordination of this project with our Geotechnical Engineering
team and the Client.
CITY OF BOWLING GREEN:
The
City of Bowling Green
awarded the Surveying, Civil Engineering Design and right-of-way
document preparation for the extension of Fields Drive to
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC.
CITY OF COLUMBIA:
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC has
been awarded a contract to provide Consulting Engineering services to
the City of Columbia on
an as needed basis.
KENTUCKY DEPARTMENT OF PARKS:
The Commonwealth of
Kentucky, Department of Parks has awarded
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC
contracts
to design Miniature Golf Courses at
Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park and
Barren River Lake State Resort Park. Each course will be designed as
an 18-hole handicap accessible course with a natural theme setting.
Design for the Dale Hollow course is complete and construction
has commenced. The Barren River project is currently on hold.
L. T. SMITH STADIUM ADDITION:
In association with one
of the worlds largest sports complex design firms,
Heery International,
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC
was
awarded the Surveying and Civil Engineering Design services for the $35
million dollar expansion and addition of the West Grandstands to L. T.
Smith Stadium at Western Kentucky University.
GLASGOW WATER COMPANY:
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC was
retained by the Glasgow Water
Company to perform Material testing Services
for the Water Treatment Plant expansion at Lucas, Kentucky.
LIVING HOPE BAPTIST CHURCH:
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC was
awarded the Surveying, preliminary Civil Engineering design
services and land use analysis for the proposed expansions of
Living Hope Baptist Church campus at 1805 Westen Street in Bowling
Green. Living Hope has agreed to purchase the adjacent existing
Holy Spirit Catholic Church property. Anticipated construction
start date is Spring 2008. All field surveying work is being
coordinated by Bernie Blakeman, PLS and managed by
Don Pedigo,
PLS. Site design and analysis is being provided by
Jason
Blakeman, PE, PLS, and
Elinor Markel, RLA.

DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC
is pleased to welcome Dale Davis, PE, PLS
to our team. Dale is the latest addition to our rapidly
expanding Civil Engineering and Land Surveying Division. Dale’s
position will be Senior Engineer and Director of Business
Development.
Dale brings over thirty years of extensive civil, structural,
and mining engineering experience, as well as additional land
surveying, capabilities to the
DDS team. His past professional affiliations
include Freeland Harris Consulting Engineers and Associated
Engineers in Madisonville. He also has over 15 years of mining
engineering experience for firms that included The Pittsburg and
Midway Coal Mining Company and Armstrong Coal.
Dale’s experience includes structural engineering, mine
planning, site planning, erosion control design, utility and
lift station and force main design, and roadway design. He is a
licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky and Indiana and a
licensed Land Surveyor in Kentucky. He is a member of the
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), National Society of
Professional Engineers (NSPE), Kentucky Society of Professional
Engineers (KSPE) and the Kentucky Association of Professional
Surveyors (KAPS). He is Past President of the Owensboro Chapter
of ASCE, and Past President of the Green River Chapter of KSPE.
Dale lives in Madisonville with his wife, Sharon. They have four
children and seven grandchildren. He also serves as a Lay Pastor
for the Presbyterian, USA Church.

In January 2008, Governor Steve Beshear reappointed
Dennis D. Smith, PE, PLS, of
Bowling Green to his second 4-year term with The
Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and
Land Surveyors. Mr. Smith is 2007 past-Chairman of the
Board of Licensure and has served on several committees of the
Board and recently assumed the Presidency of the
Colonial States Board of Surveyor Registration
representing 22 states.
The State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers
and Land Surveyors consists of nine members appointed
by the governor. The board regulates and controls the licensing
and conduct of engineers and land surveyors within the
Commonwealth of Kentucky.

as a member of our Team! Don Pedigo, PLS was named Surveyor of
the Year by the
Kentucky Association of
Professional Surveyors (KAPS) at their annual
Conference and Awards Banquet held at Holiday Inn University
Plaza Bowling Green, Kentucky, February 14-17, 2007.
Each year candidates, who demonstrate outstanding service to the
land surveying profession, are nominated by their peers based
upon years of service and dedication to the Surveying
Profession, the association and other organizations. The final
decision for the award recipient is selected by the
KAPS
president.
Don, Surveying Division Manager at

, with offices in Bowling Green and Hopkinsville, has been
surveying since 1979 and has been a Professional Land Surveyor
since 1988. He is licensed in Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.
He currently serves as Director and Treasurer on the 2007-2008
Board of Directors as well as Standing Committee Chairmen for
the Annual Picnic and Golf Outing, and the Health, Life, General
Liability, and Professional Liability Insurance Committee for
KAPS.

STEWART
LICH, PE
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC is
pleased to welcome Stewart Lich, P.E., to our team. Stewart is
the latest addition to our rapidly expanding Civil Engineering
and Land Surveying practice.
Stewart brings extensive engineering capabilities to the
DDS
team. He has spent the last few years working on projects that
include site plans, utility layout, and erosion control, design
of lift stations and force mains and roadway design that include
the I-66 corridor and widening of I-65. Prior to joining
DDS ENGINEERING,
PLLC, Stewart
was a Project Manager at Palmer Engineering, in Winchester,
Kentucky and Dyer and Associates in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The
University of Kentucky in May 2000. Stewart lives in Brownsville
with his wife, Amanda, and two children Ava Kate and Camden.

BERNARD BLAKEMAN, JR., PLS

to announce the acquisition of Blakeman Land Surveying in
Bowling Green, Kentucky. Blakeman Land Surveying was owned and
operated by Bernard Blakeman, Jr., PLS and had been serving the
Bowling Green area for over 34 years. Bernie began his surveying
career in 1974 and worked at the Kentucky Department of
Highways, Padgett and Dinning Engineering, Inc., and Don Goodman
Surveying until forming his own business in 1976. He earned a
Bachelor of Science in Math and Physics from Western Kentucky
University.
Bernie will continue to serve Bowling Green and surrounding
areas from the main office of

Prior to joining our firm, he was the Owner and Operator of B.

DDS ENGINEERING,

March 2006.
He earned an Associates Degree in Applied Sciences (Mining
Reclamation) and Survey Basics at Madisonville Community College
in Madisonville, KY in May 2000. B. J. lives in Princeton with
his wife, Kelly, and three children Maddi, Annie and Lily.
