SUN PRODUCTS DISTRIBUTION CENTER

DDS ENGINEERING, PLLC helped the Bowling Green Area Economic Development Authority establish Section 4 of the Southern Kentucky Industrial Park in 2003.  Over the years, DDS worked with many potential industries looking to locate in the Industrial Park.  We generated potential roadway and utility alignments and site plans to assist the industries design making process.

In 2009, Sun Products approached the Authority about the property located in Section 4.  Sun’s largest production facility is located in the same industrial park near this site and Sun determined the property available in Section 4 was ideal for a new distribution facility.  The construction of  this new facility would allow Sun to consolidate it’s inventory and operations from nine aging locations to this one centralized, and efficient, location.

DDS was selected early in the design process to provide land surveying, civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the new distribution center.  We began by reconfiguring the property boundaries and existing utility easements to accommodate the new 1.4 million square foot facility.  In order to maintain a seamless and expedient process, site design commenced immediately following the agreement of the revision of the property boundaries.  Sun allowed only 18 months for the design and construction of the massive facility, creating an even greater need for expedient and efficient operations among all involved in the project.  The entire design team maintained close coordination throughout the design process and DDS updated all local regulatory and utility providers on a regular basis so that all approvals were obtained on time and all problems during construction could be handled quickly.

Sun Products took possession of the facility in October 2011.
