Western Kentucky University is the third largest
university in Kentucky. Its campus dates from
the late 1800's, and today covers more than 400
acres in the center of Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Plans were begun in 2001 to build a new facility
on the Ogden campus of the university to house
the recently accredited engineering department.
The Ogden campus already is home to four
classroom buildings, a planetarium, two
greenhouses and various service drives. The new
engineering building is built on the footprint
of the last remaining open space, which was most
recently a parking lot.

DDS ENGINEERING,

performed a boundary survey in order to carve
out an individual parcel of land for this new
facility. In addition, we performed field
reconnaissance, topographic surveys and office
calculations to support the preparation of a
topographic map at one-foot contours, showing
hundreds of spot elevations that detailed the
locations of utility boxes, existing curbs,
sidewalks, buildings, overhangs and existing
site lighting. Understanding the exact features
of all of these existing elements was crucial in
the design and construction of the new building
and service drives. When the construction
drawings were completed,
DDS ENGINEERING,

surveying crews returned to the site to perform
construction staking for the building.
Date Completed: 2004

Of Particular Interest:
Complex site, with approximately 30 feet
elevation change in a horizontal distance of
