Aerial Mapping is our most recent service addition that builds upon our legacy of providing the highest quality and most extensive array of product options for our Clients. Our capability in aerial mapping began in 2018 when Matt Rogers, P.E., obtained his FAA Remote Pilot Certificate. In 2020, DDS ENGINEERING began flying aerial mapping missions for Clients. We customize each mapping mission to best meet the needs of the Client and to best capture information from the project site. Our aerial mapping service is completely vertically integrated within our business thus you can be assured that we have start-to-finish secure management of your potentially sensitive site map data.
Each aerial map that we produce is comprised of photos that are taken over the project site. Our drones are fitted with high-resolution cameras that are mounted to capture images in a perspective that is vertical to the surface of the Earth. We utilize Ground Control Points (GCP’s) during the mission as this additional step allows us to develop data sets which are as accurate as possible, and which are used in drawings developed with CAD and/or GIS software.
Our UAV Pilot utilizes public domain computer imagery to prepare flight plans over a project site to capture photos with the requisite overlap required to accurately develop true 3-D imagery for our projects. After the mapping mission is complete, the captured images are transformed into a 3-D Point Cloud which is used to create the Digital Surface Model (DSM). This DSM is further refined by our Engineers into a high-quality, geometrically corrected, digital orthophotograph delivered to our Clients.
As Professional Engineers and Surveyors, we are ever developing our knowledge, skills, and abilities in new technology that supports our engineering, surveying, and inspection services. By deploying our aerial mapping capability, we can provide you with another perspective of your project. Contact us today!
